Ukrainian Bird Ringing Centre was found in the Institute of Zoology (National Academy of Sciences) in May of 1992. Staff of the office consists of four persons. 1 non-academic and 3 academic full-time (Anatoly Poluda – head of the Scheme, Svetlana Taykova, Svetlana Tshukanova) are employed.

Since 1994 Ukrainian ornithologists had begin to use Ukrainian rings with inscription “Kiev”. During 1994-2002 more than 125 000 birds of 223 species get Ukrainian rings. The rings of other Schemes were used in Ukraine (“Moskwa”, "Helgoland” and “Heddensee”). Now each year from 15.000 to 25.000 birds are ringed in Ukraine.
