Welcome to the Migration Mapping Tool that provides information of the migratory connectivity of 50 bird species in Europe, primarily to inform management of Avian Influenza outbreaks and the risks of other disease transmission by birds. The tool was first published in 2022 and will continue to be updated as a result of ongoing work. In March 2023 we released an initial version of EFSA's Bird Flu Radar which was fully incorporated in the Migration Mapping Tool in September 2023. These tools have been produced through a collaboration between EURING, EuroBirdPortal and Ausvet that is funded by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). Work on behalf of EURING and Eurobird Portal has been undertaken by the British Trust for Ornithology, the Catalan Ornithological Institute and SOVON.

EFSA's Bird Flu Radar
Based on the data on distributions and movements shown in the Migration Mapping Tool, combined with data on Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreaks available from ADIS, we have now developed an Early Warning System for HPAI outbreaks in wild birds. This tool is under constant development and will be further expanded in the future.
