CYPRUS
RINGING SCHEME
REPORT FOR THE EURING GENERAL MEETING
CHEMNITZ - AUGUST 2003
SCHEME
Ringing first started in 1957.
The scheme was originally part of the Cyprus Ornithological Society
(1970) a non governmental organisation.
This changed in February 2003 when the society became a member of
BirdLife International and changed its name to BirdLife Cyprus.
Licences are issued by the Ministry of the Interior.
STAFF
Voluntary basis only. There is no permanent salaried staff.
RINGERS
A major problem area as there is a serious lack of active resources.
A small number of ringers visit in Spring which is very helpful.
RINGS
Currently 14 sizes in use. Rings are sourced from Porzana.
COLOUR RINGING
Coordinated
by the ringing scheme. Six projects started in 2002.
DATA MANAGEMENT
All ringing data since 2000 computerised using the non-U.K. version
of the B.T.O. software package Integrated Population Monitoring
and Reporter (I.P.M.R.).
It is planned to input all the ringing data from the schemes beginning
in 1957.
